Our Syneos Health Field Medical Recruiters have compiled a list of resources and strategies for those looking to transfer their clinical training and skills in to a new career as a Clinical Educator. These resources will help you gain insight on the role and may help you determine which of our opportunities are the right career move for you.
A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) and an active Registered Nurse licensure in the state in which you reside are typically minimum educational requirements for most of our Clinical Educator roles. Some partnerships prefer candidates have a Master's of Science Degree in Nursing (MSN), Nurse Practitioner Degree (NP) or a Master of Business Administration (MBA). These degrees are a plus!
Strive to network and build relationships with those Sales Representatives and/or Clinical Educators who may call on and provide in-services within their clinical practice. They are a valuable source of information who can share what it's like to work in a field-based role in the biopharmaceutical industry.
As you begin your Clinical Educator career search, focus on those roles that fall within your therapeutic or disease state knowledge. This will allow you to position yourself as an expert and showcase the value you would immediately bring to the company. Experience working directly with patients in required personalized education regarding medications is another key attribute for a Clinical Educator role.
Start building contacts with the Clinical Educator community via social media sites. Connecting and networking with current Clinical Educators and Clinical Recruiters will give you the advantage of cultivating relationships and formulating conversations around your career aspirations.
Certifications generally aren't required for all Clinical Educator openings, but they may prove to be an asset in establishing clinical education as a specialty area of practice. Consider your therapeutic area of expertise and whether there are certifications available in those specialties for clinicians. Certain national associations offer clinicians and educators opportunities to take part in webinars, conferences, continuing education and certifications.
