Responsibilities

You’ll join The Medical Affairs Consulting team within Syneos Health Consulting. You will help clients maximize the commercial value of their assets, portfolio, and organization while building excellence in the commercial organization. You will also help companies market and sell more effectively in an environment increasingly dominated by third-party payers. More specifically:

A Managing Director in Consulting is an experienced thought leader in the biopharmaceutical industry and a trusted advisor to clients with accountability for project management, team leadership, and business development.  Viewed as a key senior leader within the Consulting business, a Managing Director drives meaningful commercial success by securing profitable business, actively harvesting accounts, creating leads, and ensuring accurate project forecasting and pricing.  As part of the Consulting leadership team, the Managing Director Medical Affairs will contribute to setting business direction, strategy, and priorities and take ownership for driving the overall growth and scalability of the Medical Affairs Consulting business. 

  • Builds positive working relationships with clients, consulting staff, managers, leadership, and internal support teams.
  • Achieves commercial success by actively harvesting accounts and creating leads at new accounts, soliciting support from other business units to close deals, and securing profitable business.
  • Develops and leads, independently, a large client book of business.
  • Achieves billable utilization, led book of business, and sales targets, while collaborating with others to attain overall business objectives and metrics.
  • Validates accurate project forecasting and pricing to avoid losses.
  • Ensures reasonable level of billability for project team members. Oversees project budgets accordingly such that there is room for senior billed time.
  • Supports the development of a growing a healthy Advisory Group and overall Consulting business unit, above and beyond individual contributions of sales and book of business.
  • Leads and develops client relationships and ensures the delivery of well-structured projects that exceed client expectations. Is personally responsible for the design, efficiency, and outcomes related to client projects. Takes accountability for issues that may arise and rectifies those issues. Delivers projects on time and on budget.

  • MBA or a graduate degree in a life sciences field required
  • Known authority in Medical Affairs Commercial strategy; able to leverage external network to improve profitable revenues and market positioning
  • 10+ years of leading Commercial / Strategic Consulting, with a focus on Pharmaceutical Medical Affairs
  • A strong history of successfully selling, delivering and growing consulting revenues
  • Recent experience working with large national and global pharmaceutical / biotech accounts
  • Strong and demonstrable track record of successful life science consulting practice building
  • Talent for growing and developing key client and internal relationships
  • Experience across both promotional and non-promotional commercialization activities
  • Demonstrated competency in building high performing, customer-focused consulting teams
  • Highly strategic with exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organization skills and precise attention to detail
  • Proficiency with PowerPoint and Excel required
  • ​Ability to travel
  • The drive for self-development, the ability to collaborate, and an action-oriented work ethic
