Art Director is a creative position with responsibility for providing direct support to creative leadership, particularly in the areas of cross-department concept development and adherence to client’s marketing strategies and objectives. The Art Director generates and develops creative concepts for campaign elements such as promotional advertising, sales collateral, tradeshow elements and all digital projects.

  • Design and develop promotional tactics, concepts, and campaigns for educational and promotional tactics targeting healthcare professional and patient/consumer audiences
  • Submit work for review by Art Supervisor or Art ACD; manage revisions through all stages of assigned projects
  • Ensure work is consistent with brand guidelines and strategy
  • Maintain the high standards for production of materials produced by the agency, including digital, print, audio/visual, and other collateral
  • Consult with creative leadership, as well as account services, project management, and other agency team members as necessary to achieve agency objectives
  • Possess a working knowledge of pharmaceutical marketing restrictions
  • Have established skills in presenting creative work, with the ability to deliver a believable, inspiring, and persuasive approach to selling the “big idea” to team members and clients
  • Develop an understanding of creative’s role in strategic and tactical planning
  • Possess a knowledge of advertising business beyond healthcare, including historic, current, and emerging industry trends
  • Keep pace with new trends in visual arts, typography, illustration, photography, as well as media and technology



Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in advertising, design, communications or relevant field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of experience in an advertising industry position, including at least 2 years of recent experience as a Graphic Designer (or equivalent experience) in a healthcare agency or pharmaceutical setting
  • Demonstrated ability to think conceptually and provide marketable solutions in conceiving, developing, and producing print and digital promotional tactics
  • Proficient with Mac MS Office (Word and PowerPoint) and font management software
  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop: familiarity with Premier a plus
  • Some experience directing photographers, illustrators, designers and production staff to ensure proper production of campaign elements
  • Ability to think conceptually and provide marketable solutions in conceiving, developing, and producing print and digital promotional tactics; familiarity with leveraging social media a plus
  • Ability to multitask, handle stressful situations, and successfully manage deadline pressures
  • Possess an open mind and the belief that great ideas can come from anyone and anywhere

The successful Art Director is ideally a former Graphic Designer who expertly navigates the balancing act between Agency obligations and client needs by constantly delivering market-changing creative solutions. An Art Director does all this while working collaboratively with internal Agency partners to make sure everything is on strategy, on time, and on budget. These repeated successes, and increased responsibilities, along with the right mentorship, often inspire Art Directors to become an Sr. Art Directors.
