The Content Strategy Director is part of the Communications business unit and sits within the strategy center of excellence. You will have the opportunity to provide strategic insights, content strategy, and subject matter expertise across the Syneos Health Communications brand as well as different brands within the entire roster of Communications agencies (advertising, PR, branding, medical communications). The strategy center of excellence is composed of team members that are geographically dispersed and, as such, this role can be based anywhere and will be full-time remote.


The Content Strategy Director is an experienced and confident strategist and creative in the health care space with accountability for content strategy development, thought leadership creation, internal and external communications, project management, and business development. They leverage professional relationships and journalistic curiosity to identify industry trends and build high-value, business-driving content around them. They also work to ensure that the Syneos Health agencies produce vigorous written communications that represent their identities and offerings amid the dynamic organization’s evolution. Additionally, they will work to support business development, particularly by creating custom assets and other tools to strengthen pitches and other new-business endeavors.

Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Behavioral Insights, they will collaborate to position Syneos Health Communications among world-class businesses and thought leaders.


  • Build positive working relationships with Syneos Health Communications Agencies, leadership and internal support teams
  • Develop and execute content strategy by identifying the unique needs of our agencies and uncovering changing expectations across the health care landscape
  • Integrate the Motivational Edge brand and behavioral science expertise across the company’s business-generating content

Thought Leadership

  • Develop, own, socialize and execute against a central Syneos Health Communications content calendar and editorial process for generating timely, bespoke content
  • Collaborate with various team members to build a research-based, business-driving, modular thought leadership library
  • Partner to plan for primary research to drive content and thought leadership needs
  • Generate interesting pathways for Syneos Health Communications content, including white papers, blogs, podcasts, panels, conference recaps, and a new behavioral science book
  • Write regular flagship PR and thought pieces for external publishing and distribution
  • Co-lead the Communications pulse-trends program, including the writing, packaging, and dissemination of its content
  • Design compelling story arcs that showcase how Syneos Health Communications offerings are a step ahead of industry trends




  • Oversee web content management and use agency websites as an opportunity to tell stories that truly motivate and convert visitors
  • Team up with members of the CX Practice to elevate, crystallize, and apply evolving customer experience offering as it relates to modular content strategy
  • Serve as a content strategy subject matter expert on key client engagements
  • Help upskill the Communications strategy discipline on best practices around and trends in content strategy
  • Apply editorial expertise to ensure that pieces authored by different agency team members present a unified voice that represents the Syneos Health Communications brand
  • Support and coach individual content contributors to help them bring their expertise to life


New Business


  • Contribute as needed to proposals and pitches to best showcase our strategic edge, behavioral scientific approach, and custom offerings
  • Compose decks and leverage digital tools to create bespoke experiences for potential clients and new partners
  • Help devise solutions to the strategic and business challenges with which brands approach us

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Advertising or Communications, or a related field 
  • 5-7 years of industry experience with progressive levels of responsibility 
  • Experience working on client projects as well as within cross-functional team environments 
  • Excellent editorial, communication, presentation, organizational, and partnership skills 
  • Understanding of business strategy, and how brand and business impact each other 
  • Understanding of various marketing, communication and experiential channels and the strengths and limitations of each 
  • Strong understanding of the healthcare industry and the interplay between stakeholder groups (payer, patient, caregivers, providers) 
  • An excellent understanding of the full marketing mix; experience with digital and/or CX strategy is a plus
