Executive Vice President, Risk & Reputation Management

Overview

Syneos Health’s Reputation & Risk Management practice is looking for an exceptional Executive Vice President who is adept at finding answers to questions that can’t be addressed by a simple formula. Candidates we consider must have a proven track-record of rolling up their sleeves and gathering available information to formulate persuasive strategies and programs for C-Suite clients at life science companies.  

The Executive Vice President is responsible for applying, selling and growing network-wide resources, providing excellent client service for anchor accounts, establishing and implementing the overall strategic direction of the programs, and managing the business in a profitable, growing manner. This EVP is a company leader with the ability and expectation to deliver on the Practice’s vision, performance requirements, growth projections and profitability targets.

Candidates will be accepted to provide independent counsel at the most senior level, act as a strategic leader within the Practice and Syneos Health PR, overall, and deliver thought leadership content both internally and externally. The individual must be able to analyze and quickly solve problems, develop programs, oversee the development and delivery of high- quality work products, and play a significant business and people development role.

Candidates offered a position will complement our group of senior communications consultants who hail from backgrounds in health policy, Congress, the Administration, the legal profession, crisis communications and consulting. It is an optimal role for someone who cares about working with clients amidst dynamic changes occurring in national health policy and pharmaceutical industry practices. As a member of the practice, this position will interact with Fortune 500 company executives and biopharma C-Suite members to help them protect and enhance their reputations in the face of business and environmental challenges. 

Responsibilities

Account Oversight:

• Develop and lead projects and program strategies; oversee that implementation plans, evaluation mechanisms, staffing, timelines and budgets are on track.
• Act independently; holds responsibility for anchor account client relationships. 
• Provide strategic vision, rationale and direction on accounts and programs.
• Counsel clients with limited if any top cover.
• Maintain and growing existing accounts; minimize account turn-over.
• Provide proactive leadership to accounts, staff and clients.
• Oversee an account team of 10-15 members

Professional Skills:

• Ability to synthesize information quickly and turn informed recommendations for C-Suite audiences.
• Strong acumen in life science corporate communications, media strategy, data communications and content storytelling.
• Display strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Interest in current event, public affairs, health policy and / or advocacy relations.
• Exhibit calm equilibrium and quick thinking.
• Presents very effectively.

Financial/Administrative:

• Contribute to development of company revenue projections
• Prioritizes and forecasts accounts at the Practice level in collaboration with the Practice Head and leadership team
• Build and manage accounts for agency growth/profitability; ensures teams display proper account management, identifies areas for financial growth and prioritizes accordingly

Business Development:

• Develops and directs new business program development and presentations.
• Creates thought leadership content and presents at conferences to identify new business opportunities.
• Mentors teams to grow existing accounts.
• Delivers strong analytical, strategic and conceptual contributions to new program development.

People Management:

• Participates with senior managers in hiring, assessment and career development activities.
• Ensures staff satisfaction and retention
• Identifies strengths and weaknesses of direct reports and team members, providing counseling on job performance and career development as appropriate.
• Manages staff to maximize productivity and individual, team and financial performance.

Initiative and General Management:

• Routinely contributes to agency performance and growth.
• Manages people to maximize attainment of their career development as well as company objectives.
• Leads colleagues in identifying and solving problems.
• Leads colleagues in following industry trends and accessing emerging technologies and resources in solving problems.
• Displays work ethic and values of firm in day-to-day capacities.
• Work with senior managers to identify and address personal training, leadership and career development needs.

Job Requirements

He/she must have 15+ years of public relations, marketing, journalism, consulting or science experience, a B.A./B.S. degree in communications, liberal arts, business/marketing or sciences and/or a demonstrated ability at this level.
