Syneos Health is looking for a Sr. Editor for its Managed Markets team.

The Sr. Editor is expected to work independently in a managed markets team environment. He or she will act as lead editor on several brands, enforcing quality control across core editorial functions. When necessary, the senior editor will also assist with a variety of other brands. He or she is expected to demonstrate expertise regarding compliance and AMA style.



Duties of the senior editor include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Managing day-to-day workflow on dedicated brands to ensure the work is done in a timely manner
  • Working with all editors as needed to complete assigned jobs—responsible for checking all work done on dedicated brands that is completed by other editors
  • Supporting editors and junior editors as they become familiar with their brands and agency processes (as needed)
  • Reviewing all digital and print materials at various stages of a project’s life cycle for grammar, spelling, punctuation, flow and sense, structure, consistency within itself or with related jobs, compliance with AMA style and any related internal/client brand style—rewriting content as necessary—to provide accurate, quality work to our internal and external clients
  • Performing cold reads, fact checks, spell checks, disaster checks, and slugs, and checking internal team and client changes on all digital and print materials at various stages to ensure that all materials leaving the agency are factually sound and meet all visual and content standards mandated by the client, AMA, and FDA
  • Proofreading printer and/or digital proofs or staging sites against mechanical prep files, noting any discrepancies related to copy, art, fonts, and kerning and leading, as well as any egregious errors that may have slipped through on prior rounds
  • Partnering with internal team members (Project Management, Copy, Art, and Account) on all projects to ensure the delivery of accurate and quality digital and print materials that are on time and within budget. This includes delegating work to other editors as necessary
  • Attending all necessary team meetings, providing input on hours and the level of editing needed to ensure the success of all deliverables within the given timeframe, as well as asserting (when warranted) the risks associated with deviating from editorial and/or agency process
  • As backup editor, performing all critical editorial functions in the absence of or in partnership with the lead editor (eg, attending meetings, performing reads, checking changes, etc) to maintain continued workflow and balanced utilization
  • Creating and maintaining editorial style guides

Job Requirements


  • A minimum of 3 years of editing experience in a pharmaceutical advertising agency is required
  • Proficiency in AMA style
  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in English, Communications, Journalism, or Science is preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to multitask and remain levelheaded and positive in a fast-paced environment while functioning as a member of a highly collaborative team
  • Ability to oversee projects delegated to other editors
  • Basic understanding of digital communications and media channels
  • Experience working with a digital routing system and proficiency in Adobe Acrobat
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and PowerPoint
