As the Syneos Health Commercial VP, Business Development you will identify, grow and expand the Syneos Health business development opportunities by developing and leveraging  relationships with key decision-makers within biotechnology, medical device and pharmaceutical companies.  You are competitive, proactive and passionate about business growth and business development.  You should have the ability to think strategically about complex client organizations of all sizes and understand how to unlock growth in those accounts through strong prospecting skills with a deep interest, expertise, and industry network. You will think about how we can connect our unique set of integrated offerings across our Commercial Business to solve problems for our clients. 

We are searching for a motivated leader with a hunter mindset responsible for generating new business by opening doors for our subject matter experts and qualifying leads. In this role, you will provide vision and direction for identifying and qualifying leads on behalf of our Syneos Health Commercial Solutions.  You will manage a team of prospectors and provide targeting and messaging guidance.  You will coach the team to hit targets  filling our Commercial pipeline with an ongoing stream of quality opportunities – which  you help qualify and participate  to convert into revenue.  Performance in this role will impact Syneos Health’s financial performance in three key elements: 1) pipeline opportunity generation; 2) growth through new business identification, qualification and conversion; and 3) staff performance, retention and development.

Specific Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with business leads and cross-functional commercial counterparts to ensure knowledge of current and future offerings, solutions, intellectual property etc. in order to compete and achieve success  in this e competitive market. 
  • Maintain strong relationships with Commercial Leadership to understand current business footprint and client map including revenues, nature of engagements, scope of offering, existing relationships, potential opportunities, etc.
  • Create a working environment which  encourages and supports a positive mindset about the work as well as the client and staff  is involved.  Encourage and demonstrate unity behind team and Commercial Business decision-making.  Mentor and develop your staff to motivate them and help develop their skills so  they will excel in their roles.
  • Collaborate and create an environment which  encourages information sharing and openness to new ideas.  Ask open-ended questions to get to the root of issues.  Manage change and conflict by offering guidance and support.  
  • Demonstrate a desire and aptitude to present in small and large, internal and external groups.  Manage meetings with efficiency and ensure critical objectives are met.
  • Display, and serve as a model of, marketing curiosity and the willingness to push your own thinking in new directions.  You lead the efforts to develop and articulate key points-of-view – internally and externally – relative to strategic alternatives, client industries and issues.  
  • Demonstrate the capacity to identify key elements of an issue or problem and the  ablility  to articulate to a wide range of client opportunities and implications. Make decisions that reflect “layers” of thought – enthusiasm, insight, caution, discretion.
  • Position yourself as an industry thought leader, actively networking to develop brand awareness. Be  a trusted, credible leader.   Actively research, synthetize and communicate current trends and changes in our industry.  Build and leverage relationships with internal and external partners. 

Job Requirements

Along with demonstrated initiative, uncompromised integrity and a results-oriented mindset, the ideal candidate has:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or a science related field.
  • 15+ years’ related BD and leadership experience, plus extensive knowledge within the Commercial Business of Biopharmaceuticals or related industry. 
  • 12+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Must have proven Sales experience.
  • Confident and persuasive communicator and collaborator.
  • The aptitude to build a sales pipeline individually and through a team you manage.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of enthusiasm, passion, natural competitiveness and strong desire to succeed.
  • Understanding of therapeutic categories/disease states.
  • Superior presentation, leadership, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Experience with developing and executing successful sales & prospecting strategies. 
  • Must have a strategic mindset along with being a thought leader and a strategic partner with clients.
  • Commercial business knowledge within the Pharmaceutical industry.
  • Must possess excellent perception & problem-solving skills and the ability to quickly recognize opportunities.
  • The ability to work independently while communicating to Commercial leadership in real-time.
  • Must possess exceptional written and oral communication skills, and be detail oriented.
  • Strong motivation toward Commercial top-line growth.
  • The drive for self-development, the ability to collaborate, and an action-oriented work ethic.

This position can be remote based or located at one of our office locations on the West Coast.  Travel required 50% of the time to meet with clients and visit Syneos Health offices across the US.
