Overview

The Editorial Manager will be responsible for managing 2-3 editors in addition to owning their own brand. This candidate must have extensive editorial knowledge/experience (in both print and digital) and flexibility using that expertise. This opportunity is ideal for a positive self-starter who is efficient, eager to lead, and prepared to mentor and guide others. The Editorial Manager will report to the VP, Director of Editorial.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations the assigned editorial group, working primarily with team editors to ensure timely delivery of consistently precise work
  • Build and maintain relationships with agency brand team members and give team editors opportunities to do the same
  • Collaborate closely with project managers to allocate time, prioritize tactics, and establish timeframes for completion of editorial tasks, depending on resources; firmly and fairly advocate for direct reports while collaborating with agency brand teams to balance the needs of a tactic with available resources
  • Mentor junior editors and closely oversee brand editors
  • Maintain daily communication with the Director on the status of each editor and their brands
  • Serve as the ultimate point of contact for quality assurance; offer constructive feedback to direct reports
  • Identify gaps in resources/inefficiencies in workflow and target potential solutions as necessary

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, or related discipline
  • 4+ years of experience as a medical editor, including
  • 2+ years in a pharmaceutical advertising agency
  •  Prior supervisory experience
  • Master of standard American English (grammar, punctuation, usage, syntax) with flexibility to accept deviations when appropriate for audience or consistency of style
  • Demonstrable technical skills copyediting and proofreading in Adobe Acrobat Pro in digital routing process
  • Aptitude for comprehending medical science content written at a high level by and for physicians (eg, peer-  reviewed journal articles describing results of clinical trials) and distilling that content for a lay audience
  • Experience working on multiple drug launches and FDA advisory-review submissions
  • Driven by quality and process to help establish, negotiate, and meet deadlines
  • Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills; comfortable talking and meeting with employees at all levels of the agency
  • Must be reliable and willing to work around challenges that may arise
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a science or humanities discipline OR at least 2 years of experience as a managing editor at an HCP pharmaceutical agency
  • Learn new technologies quickly
