The Medical Director is a key member of our Scientific Services Team who leads development of scientific content and is a mentor to junior members of the Scientific Services Team. This critical team member is a key point of contact for our clients on content-related matters and should feel comfortable taking a leading role in any client conversations.  In this role, the Medical Director fosters client relationships and protects Cadent Medical Communications’ reputation for flawless execution.  To achieve these goals, the Medical Director is expected to develop deep scientific knowledge of both the client’s product therapeutic category (inclusive of the treatment paradigm and competitive landscape) and the product itself.  The Medical Director will also identify opportunities for client organic growth as well as supporting new business initiatives through participation in RFIs/RFPs as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Developing scientific content aligned with product strategy, including scientific communication platforms and lexicons, promotional medical communications solutions, medical affairs assets, and/or publications
  • Building client relationships through strategic partnership and understanding of client goals
  • Liaising directly with healthcare professionals, including thought leaders and publication authors, to support content development and execution.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert/resource in multiple disease states to both internal team members and clients
  • Remaining current on the latest clinical trial data, treatment trends and the competitive environment for all assigned clients
  • Managing a team of biomedical writers and associate medical directors
    1. Prioritizing and organizing an efficient workflow; managing multiple overlapping project workstreams
    2. Mentoring and assisting in training/on-boarding of scientific team members as needed
    3. Delegating work to appropriate staff
    4. Overseeing appropriate support and staffing for clients
    5. Responsible for the development of content for multiple disease states/clients
    6. Providing insights on best practices for developing scientific content across all projects
    7. Delivering timely, constructive, and actionable feedback
  • Ensuring accuracy, quality, and scientific rigor for scientific content on all projects
  • Travelling to advisory boards, scientific conference/congresses, and other events as assigned (around 10-15% of time; may include weekend travel and overnights); may assist with the following as related to these meetings:
    1. Client and advisor slide development/refinement/review/rehearsals
    2. Moderation during advisory boards
    3. Preparation of advisory board executive summaries or scientific meeting/congress reports
    4. Development/refinement of scientific insights and strategy; evaluating potential impacts on client tactical plans from knowledge gained during various meetings.
    5. Collection and analysis of market trends and competitive landscape from knowledge gained during various meetings.
    6. Fostering/advancing thought leader and client relationships during various meetings
  • Supporting new business efforts (including RFP/RFI responses and pitches) with a focus on developing and presenting a situational assessment and strategic framework for such opportunities
  • Producing timely and high-quality project execution

Essential Requirements

  • Advanced degree, MD, PhD or PharmD preferred.
  • ≥ 3-4 years medical writing/medical communications experience 
  • Neuroscience/Epilepsy experience is highly preferred, but not required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the expectation of interacting with account teams, other writers, editors, creative teams, healthcare professionals (including thought leaders) and clients
  • Champions a “one-team” mindset with shared accountability across team members and departments for flawless execution 
  • Able to analyze and synthesize complex information from multiple sources
  • Demonstrates subject matter expertise in multiple therapeutic categories/indications, preferably including product launch experience
  • Confidently and clearly communicates medical/technical information to a wide variety of audiences when writing or speaking
  • Comfortable with working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, team-oriented environment
  • Efficiently prioritizes multiple tasks, provides effective direction and oversight to others when delegating work, and can quickly evaluate the resources and the time investment necessary to accomplish such tasks
    • Manages resource utilization aligned to the scope of work across assigned accounts.
    • Identifies solutions for addressing multiple projects/accounts with competing timelines

Desired Requirements

  • Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Excel and Word proficiency.
  • Although not required, subject matter expertise in cardiovascular diseases and/or liver diseases a plus.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $130,000 to $150,000. The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high of the Syneos Health range for this position. Actual salary will vary based on various factors such as the candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. In addition, some positions may include eligibility to earn commissions/bonus based on company and / or individual performance.
