This position, Copy Supervisor, is responsible for brainstorming ideas, developing concepts, and crafting brand-specific messaging across all channels. The Copy Supervisor is a lead member of a cross-functional team, manages and mentors junior level writers, and oversees the day-to-day workload. The Copy Supervisor supports the Creative Director(s) in creating and maintaining the creative vision of GSW and/or all assigned account(s) and contributes to the strength of agency by nurturing relationships with clients through communication, interaction, and exceptional work.

(Duties may include, but are not limited to all or some of the following)

  • Serve as “team owner” by managing the day-to-day copy responsibilities, both executional and supervisory in nature
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to create novel and original work in a variety of mediums—print, digital and beyond—for a variety of audiences, including both professional and patient
  • Develop a refined understanding of the brand, category, and overall marketplace
  • Mastery of the AMA Manual of Style; superior knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and proofreading symbols
  • Possess strong creative presentation skills with ability to deliver a believable, inspiring, and persuasive approach to selling the “big idea” to team members and clients
  • Demonstrate strong conceptual abilities and superior storytelling skills
  • Possess knowledge of advertising business beyond healthcare; knowing what has been done in the industry and what constitutes a quality idea/campaign
  • Partner with Art Supervisor to ensure copy direction and visual presentation work together to make the concept powerful, compelling, strategically sound, and aligned to the brief
  • Oversee tone, style, structure, and voice of all content based on brand strategy, client expectation, and creative brief
  • Actively participate in client strategic meetings, war games, market research, and work plan development
  • Manage and mentor direct reports (Interns, Copywriters, Senior Copywriters) in their efforts to research, conceptualize, and write original content
  • Easily juggle multiple client needs while inspiring and motivating both your creative teammates and your clients
  • Coordinate resources (staff and freelance), ensuring all deliverables are met
  • Provide/understand creative direction based on objectives and execute creative work effectively
  • Communicate workload appropriately based on skill sets and talents; communicate well with others on workload issues and needs, the progress of work, and results
  • Assist Group Copy Supervisor and/or Creative Director in the career development of the copy team; coach and develops direct report(s) by creating individual development plans and providing on-the-job learning
  • Support and/or lead team or agency
  • Exhibit expert understanding of trends in branding, marketing, advertising, and related communications industries
  • Passionate about staying ahead of trends within the industry and translating them into proactive recommendations for assigned accounts
  • Knowledge of advertising business beyond healthcare
  • Expert understanding of pharmaceutical requirements/terminology and how that affects your teams work
  • Successful relationship builder, both internally with the copy creative team you oversee and with your clients
  • Engage team when opportunities to cultivate existing client business present themselves

Job Requirements

  • Must have 4-6 years in healthcare advertising agency setting
  • At least 2 years of pharmaceutical copywriting experience is required
  • Experience as a supervisor a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in advertising, communications, or journalism, and/or coursework related to pharmaceutical advertising or life sciences is preferred (but not required)
  • Portfolio containing work samples that demonstrate strong conceptual abilities, creative thinking, and exceptional writing skills
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills with the ability to receive and assimilate critical feedback
  • Ability to expertly think in abstract terms; can make connections between unrelated notions; can formulate innovative ideas where others cannot; seen as original and value-adding in brainstorming sessions
  • Ability to multitask in a faced-paced environment while functioning as a member of a highly collaborative team
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Understanding of a strategically driven creative process
  • Basic understanding of digital communications and media channels preferred
  • Relentless energy, a sense of humor, and an open and curious mind
  • Flawlessly direct the creative process, workflow, workload, and resources among copy group
  • Interest in new technologies and emerging cultural trends
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $72,540 to $150,000.  The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high of the Syneos Health range for this position.  Actual salary will vary based on various factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.  In addition, some positions MAY include eligibility to earn commissions/bonus based on company and / or individual performance.
