The Marketing Lead is responsible for managing all aspects of the planning, development, and execution of resources and strategies that support and drive the client’s Marketing functional area. They will serve as the liaison between the Syneos Health functions and units that they oversee and the client. The Marketing Lead will work across the Syneos Health organization in tandem with other functional areas (e.g., Market Access, Medical) and business units (e.g., advisory, agency, field) by collaborating both internally and with the client to deliver integrated commercial solutions. The Marketing Lead will identify appropriate resources to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective mix of talent to drive business performance and results, ultimately optimizing client ROI. The Marketing Lead will collaborate on strategy, inform and evolve launch plans, and lead people. This role requires strong leadership, an enterprise mindset, client focus, and the ability to influence win-win outcomes.

  • Be the client’s primary point of contact for all contracted functional activities between related Syneos internal departments/business units and the client Act as a role model with embracing and operationalizing the Full-Service Commercial Model.
  • Serve as a senior level strategic partner collaborating with senior client management and recommending strategies and tactics that are aligned with the best interest of the client
  • Take ownership of the functional area portion of the program P&L:
  • Work closely with the client partner to ensure business planning timelines and due dates are synchronized with the financial business calendar and ensure all internal stakeholders are informed on a consistent basis.
  • Lead the development and future evolution of the functional area strategy in conjunction with the broader Syneos team and the client
  • Lead the functional area plan execution ensuring that all activities and deliverables are completed with the highest quality work, on time, and on budget.
  • Monitor and report on performance/progress across marketing activities, as part of a cross-functional Core Team that includes all functions (internal and client based) aligned to the brand
  • Anticipate client needs and issues before they occur and collaborate to develop effective solutions.
  • Lead weekly Marketing functional sub-team meetings to discuss program status, major milestones, and key deliverables to ensure that timing is well planned and met for all open activities and ensure that all necessary stakeholders are informed of progress and changes Work collaboratively with other Functional Leads and the overall Medical and Commercial Leads to manage client and internal stakeholder relationships and effectively manage Commercial Program scope and delivery
  • Work with the Program Management and Operations (PMO) function to ensure proper reporting and real-time tracking of all marketing function activities and deliverables
  • Work with the Program Finance team to effectively develop and manage the functional area budget Apply own knowledge and operational experience as required to ensure quality and successful delivery throughout the life cycle of the project
  • Develop Senior Leadership and ad-hoc presentations and training as needed. As appropriate, this role provides direction for work delegated to additional vendor partners (outside of Syneos) to ensure quality and timely completion of deliverables or provision of services.


  • Development of the marketing strategy and commercial launch plan. This includes defining the brand/product strategy, forecast, tactics, key deliverables and market development
  • Coordinate and oversee all marketing activities across the account; incorporating Medical Communications, Public Relations, Advertising, Omnichannel, and Digital Act as the main client contact for all marketing strategy and deliverables Exhibit effective leadership across different Syneos Business Units and marketing disciplines Help the client to evolve and improve their marketing strategy, through research and insights of the competitor landscape and ensure internal capabilities are aligned across Syneos
  • Work closely with the Head of Medical Affairs to ensure that marketing activities are aligned with Medical narrative and Medical Affairs deliverables
  • Develop and foster working relationships with external KOLs to support the client launch
  • Develop speaker training programs and drive ongoing engagement with HCP speakers throughout the year Implement advisory panels with thought leaders to gather deep market insights to support the launch
  • Lead commercial strategy and activities at key congresses and meetings, including disease/product theaters, conference booths, and conference sponsorships
  • Execute against omni-channel CRM and media strategies including digital marketing strategies and programs.
  • Collaborate with Sales Training and Sales Leadership to align and optimize field sales effectiveness with respect to implementation and pull-through of brand strategies and tactics

Along with demonstrated initiative, uncompromised integrity and a results-oriented mindset, the ideal candidate has: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred with 10 years related work experience
  • At least 5 years of senior level pharmaceutical marketing experience
  • Proven success working across a variety of marketing disciplines including but not limited to PR, CRM, Lifecycle Development, Advertising, Digital, Media, and Medical Communications.
  • Proven success working across a variety of marketing disciplines including but not limited to PR, CRM, Lifecycle Development, Advertising, Digital, Media, and Medical Communications.
  • Proven leadership and influencing within a complex and heavily matrixed environment required
  • Ability to understand pharmaceutical industry and healthcare system trends, financial data, customer insights and needs and be able to translate competitive intelligence data into meaningful short- and long-term actions.
  • Launch experience across multiple pharmaceutical and therapeutic areas – client specific therapeutic area experience and Global Launch Experience is a plus
  • Demonstrated commercial ability and business acumen, including strategic and tactical planning and execution.
  • Experience building and managing toward consensus based on varied stakeholder priorities
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate with others to achieve mutual objectives both within Syneos, external partners, and the client.

  • Financial acumen and the ability to read, understand, and manage functional area financials is critical
  • Performance and Program Metrics Focus

  • The ability to work in a comparable time zone to the client is required.
