In partnership with Viela Bio,  a startup clinical-stage biotechnology company which was a spin out of Astra Zeneca’s global biologics research and development arm; MedImmune.  Viela Bio focuses on developing medicines for severe autoimmune diseases by targeting the underlying causes of each disease.  Viela Bio is building a new Medical Affairs organization and a new team of medical affair managers that will be hired by Syneos and in collaboration with Viela Bio will be the core of these new Medical Affairs efforts. Viela Bio is expecting to launch its first product in a rare neurological disease late 2019/early 2020 and the new team of MSLs will be instrumental to the success of this new exciting medication.

Responsibilities

 The Syneos Health Medical Affairs Field Director (MSL Director) is responsible for leading the US MSL team in supporting and implementing strategic and tactical plans to the field to drive the US Medical Affairs Support of Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD). This role is also responsible for ensuring Medical Affairs strategy is executed, trained, and delivered by the NMO Field Medical Managers (MSL’s).

Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the MSL team in developing field medical strategy across the US
  • Participate in developing the global medical affairs strategy including conference activities, publications, patients and physician educational programs, collaboration with other stake holders, post launch studies, investigator initiated studies, etc.
  • Lead, train, develop and energize the Field Medical team to create a highly motivated cohesive MSL team
  • Continue in building a collaborative environment that drives field medical success and client partnership
  • Lead relationship building with all stake holders: key external experts, neurologists, patients advocacy groups, payers, etc.
  • Manage the Field Medical team in all aspects of the first line managers responsibilities in order to facilitate engagements

Along with demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness and a results-oriented mindset, the ideal candidate has:

  • PhD, PharmD or related degree preferred
  • Outstanding strategic thinking, problem-solving, innovation and creativity
  • Proven leadership qualities
  • 5+ years in Medical Affairs or MSL Field Leadership
  • 10+ Years in Pharmaceutical industry experience in Medical Affair organization preferably in areas of immunology and neurology
  • Experience with launch preparedness and execution required
  • Organizational and communication skills both internally and to external partners

 

 

Job Requirements
