Overview

The primary responsibility of the Account Director will be to own the client relationship. The primary scope of responsibilities comprises current and new business project management, predicated on careful assessment and ongoing management of work plans. Toward that end, the AD will facilitate effective completion of client deliverables, by nurturing collaborative relationships with internal (account, scientific, editorial, and creative services) and external client teams (brand and project leads, as well as medical affairs as needed). The ability to successfully focus the efforts of various departments and colleagues so that projects are completed on time, within budget, and with optimal efficiency is a core responsibility and skill set.

Description of Duties

• Deliverables and Project Management
o Develop and manage client relationships for assigned accounts/therapy area(s)
o Effectively manage projects from start to finish, ensuring completion of deliverables on time and on budget
o Lead on-site, teleconference, and WebEx meetings with clients, external vendors, etc
o Enhance internal and external communications to ensure optimal work flow
o Review, refine, and standardize quality of client deliverables to ensure overall excellence of work
o Develop work plans, timelines, budgets, status reports, and other project management resources
o Help develop, standardize and refine internal operating procedures

• Current Business
o Serve as primary point of contact for assigned clients
o Forecast hours and workflow to identify choke points and excess capacity
o Track all budget-relevant parameters, including out-of-pocket expenses for assigned activities
o Ensure client deliverables satisfy medical-legal-regulatory parameters and understand submission requirements
o Establish relationships with expert clinicians and outside vendors and ensure cooperation and alignment with project goals
o Work with the extended team to develop client tactical plans
o Identify and help to drive organic business development opportunities; develop scope of work proposals and related budgets as needed
• New Business
o Assist with the development of pitch decks and related scopes/budgets; participate in pitches

Supervisory Responsibilities
• Account team (direct reports)
o Train and mentor account executives on industry-, company-, and group-relevant standards
o Set clear expectations and milestones for employee growth and spearhead routine performance reviews
o Identify, foster, and monitor necessary skills development for account staff, including but not limited to
• Clean and persuasive client e-mail correspondence
• Teleconference and onsite communication with clients, experts, and colleagues
• Effective editorial and creative services work flow
• Standard operating procedure-based routing of internal drafts (eg, abstracts, posters, manuscripts)
• Time management

Minimum Requirements

• 10+ years' experience in medical communications (preferred), healthcare advertising, or similar field
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Proven track record in project and client management
• BA, BS or Master's Degree, in affiliated field preferred
• Publications management and/or data vision a plus
