Overview

The publications manager is responsible for the oversight and execution of publications planning and medical writing across multiple accounts and disease states including oncology/hematology, inflammatory diseases, neurology/psychiatry. Experience managing multiple projects and clients is strongly preferred. The candidate chosen to fill this position will have the opportunity to build the publications planning and writing team within our offices.

Description of Duties

(Duties may include, but are not limited to all or some of the following)

• Lead publication strategy, as well as the development and execution of publication plans
• Collaborate with a cross-functional internal team, as well as KOLs, authors, and clients
• Identify and implement best practices and standardized processes for publication planning
o Maintenance of ethical standards and best practices, including those related to pharmaceuticals, medical writing, publications, regulatory bodies and general business standards (ie, GPP3 and ICMJE)
o Ensure the scientific integrity, quality and accuracy of all deliverables
• Provide tactical execution and oversee project management for publication projects, facilitating adherence to project timelines
o Organizing and facilitating author meetings
o Communicating with journal editors and congress registrars
• Review, and also develop, high quality scientific content including:
o Literature searches and data mining/organization
o Manuscripts, abstracts, posters, slides, other materials
o Full, annotated reference set
o Materials for legal and regulatory review with clients as needed
o Incorporation of all stakeholder feedback
• Mentor/train medical writers, including oversight during development of client deliverables
• May also:
o Travel to client meetings and assist in:
• Preparing slides for meeting
• Providing summary of meeting
o Travel to scientific meetings to gather data and stay current in relevant therapeutic areas
o Participate in new business efforts (for example literature searches and background research) and/or travel to new business pitches

Minimum Requirements

Education
Required PhD, MD

Preferred: CMPP

Skills
Required:
• 5-7+ years' experience in medical communications and publications
• Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively with account teams, other writers, editors, physicians and clients
• Demonstrated ability to develop strategically and scientifically sound content and oversee content developed by other writers
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, dynamic, team-oriented environment and also as an independent self-starter
• Ability to efficiently prioritize multiple tasks and provide effective direction to others; can quickly evaluate the resources necessary to accomplish a goal and put those into action.
• Familiarity with publication software such as Datavision, EndNote
